DRUG RECALL — HEALTHCARE & AGING

Check the vial. Greenwich Rx recalled 10 lots of compounded glutathione injection.

Greenwich Rx recalled specific 200 mg/mL glutathione injection lots sent to patients nationwide because of potentially elevated endotoxin levels. Stop using an exact match and follow the disposal instructions in the recall notification.

Use the product name, strength, vial size, lot and beyond-use date together. This notice does not recall every glutathione product, and it is separate from the one-lot Optimal Balance Pharmacy recall published in August.

Two emergency-department reports are part of the notice

The company announcement says injectable products with elevated endotoxin levels can cause serious medical events including fever, low blood pressure, inflammatory reactions, anaphylactic shock and death. Greenwich Rx reports two patients received emergency-department care after intravenous administration of a glutathione product that was not formulated for IV use. The notice does not establish that every vial is contaminated or say that either patient was in Rockland.

The recalled product was intended for subcutaneous injection. Patients who believe they experienced a health issue related to it should contact a healthcare provider. Adverse reactions and quality problems may also be reported through FDA MedWatch ↗.

Use the notification before disposing of a match

  1. Stop using the vial if the product, package, lot and beyond-use date all match.
  2. Keep it separate from supplies that remain in use.
  3. Follow the disposal instructions Greenwich Rx sent by mail; the FDA posting does not reproduce those steps.
  4. Contact Sedgwick if the notification is missing or if you need recall help.

The product was sent directly to patients nationwide from June 26 through September 21. That establishes a possible Rockland recipient, not a confirmed Rockland prescription or adverse event.

What changes for a resident: anyone with Greenwich Rx compounded glutathione injection 200 mg/mL in a 10 mL multidose vial should check the lot and beyond-use date now, stop using an exact match and follow the disposal instructions in the recall notification.

FDA posts company announcements as a public service and does not endorse the product or company. No Rockland recipient or adverse event is confirmed. This service notice is not individualized medical advice.
