FOOD SAFETY RECALL UPDATE — HEALTH & READER SERVICE
Do not sprout or plant it. Three broccoli-seed recalls name the same supplier lot.
FDA's October 8 posting adds Gardeners Basics Waltham 29 Broccoli Sprouting Seeds in a 1-pound pouch to the Home Grown and Eden Brothers recalls. All three company announcements identify supplier lot W4105. Match the retail product and its own identifiers before acting.

Check three separate retail products

848137042889, marked “Packed for 2027.” Sold nationwide online through Amazon, GardenersBasics.com, TikTok Shop, Walmart, eBay and Etsy. - Shared supplier record: all three announcements identify supplier lot
W4105. That connection does not make the retail identifiers or refund routes interchangeable. - Action: do not plant, sprout, eat, share or use a match for microgreens. Seal it in a bag, put it in household trash rather than compost, then wash hands and clean any container or surface it touched.
- Refunds: contact Amazon for Home Grown. Eden Brothers customers should use the company's recall reply form ↗. For Gardeners Basics recall help or a refund, email info@gardenersbasics.com or text or leave a voicemail at 801-769-6181; the announcement says live calls are not answered.
Nationwide online sales create a possible Rockland path
The Home Grown product was sold through Amazon nationwide. Eden Brothers says its affected products were sold nationwide through EdenBrothers.com and Amazon. Gardeners Basics lists Amazon, its own website, TikTok Shop, Walmart, eBay and Etsy. Those records make a Rockland purchase possible, but none of the notices identifies individual buyers or confirms a recalled package in Rockland County.
These remain narrow recalls. The Home Grown pouch, Eden Brothers packages and Gardeners Basics pouch use different retail identifiers, sizes and refund routes. Do not assume every broccoli seed—or every product from any of the three brands—is recalled.
The postings share a supplier lot, but they do not report a retail-product illness
The October 2 Home Grown announcement says supplier lot W4105 was connected to seed used by a sprout grower whose finished product was part of an FDA multistate foodborne-illness investigation; it also says Salmonella was detected in a seed sample. The October 7 Eden Brothers and October 8 Gardeners Basics announcements name the same supplier lot and say their supplier warned that it may be contaminated.
All three companies reported no illnesses tied to their recalled retail products in their dated statements; Gardeners Basics specifies no reports to the company as of October 6. The shared supplier record and outbreak investigation do not, by themselves, establish an illness from any of the three retail packages or an illness in Rockland.
Why “do not use” means more than “do not eat”
Eden Brothers' instructions make the household action explicit: do not plant, sprout, eat, share or use the seeds to grow microgreens. Seal a match in a bag and place it in household trash rather than compost. Wash your hands and clean surfaces or containers that touched the seeds. Gardeners Basics separately says to stop using the seeds, not eat the seeds or sprouts grown from them, and seal and discard seeds and sprouts. Those precautions are also a practical way to carry out the Home Grown notice's direction to stop using and dispose of its matching pouch.
Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea that may be bloody, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems can face more serious illness; in rare cases, infection can enter the bloodstream. Anyone concerned about symptoms after exposure should contact a healthcare provider.
Before disposing of a match
- Photograph the brand, product, size, item code or UPC, retail lot and Use By marking that apply to your package.
- Keep the package closed and separate from food, plants, soil, compost and other seed.
- Use the correct refund route: Amazon for Home Grown, Eden Brothers' recall form for Eden Brothers, or the Gardeners Basics email or text/voicemail contact for its pouch.
- Seal the seeds in a bag, put them in household trash and clean hands, containers and surfaces that touched them.
What changes for a resident: A Rockland online buyer now has a third retail product to check. Match the Home Grown, Eden Brothers or Gardeners Basics package to its own identifiers, then stop using, seal, trash and clean after an exact match.
