ROAD SERVICE UPDATE — ACTIVE · UPDATED

511NY lists two crashes on I-87 South north of Rockland. Check the live list before returning south.

The Harriman crash before Exit 16 remained listed at 5:50 p.m., and a second southbound crash appeared before Exit 18 at New Paltz. Neither New York State Thruway Authority record posted a blocked lane, detour or clearing estimate.

The Rockland Edit road service card stating that 511NY lists two southbound I-87 crashes, before Exit 18 at New Paltz and before Exit 16 at Harriman, with no lane impact or clearing time posted
Original information card by The Rockland Edit, based on the 5:50 p.m. 511NY incident list. It is not a crash photograph, an official map or documentary evidence.

What the public record says at 5:50 p.m.

  • New Paltz: before Exit 18 at Route 299; began 5:16 p.m.; CARS CAD-262860300.
  • Harriman: before Exit 16 at Route 17 North and U.S. 6; began 4:38 p.m.; CARS CAD-262860280.
  • Not posted for either record: a blocked lane, detour, queue length, clearing estimate, cause or injury information.
  • Best next step: check live 511NY before heading south through either interchange toward Rockland and allow extra time while the records remain active.

Before you leave

Open the live 511NY incident list ↗ for the trip in front of you. A driver returning from Ulster County can encounter the New Paltz record first and the Harriman record farther south. The postings do not establish how much delay a driver will encounter.

What is not confirmed

511NY does not identify the cause, vehicles involved, crash severity, injuries, a lane restriction, detour, traffic speed or expected clearing time. The Rockland Edit has not independently observed the scene and will not infer those details.

Why this is an update, not a second article

The New Paltz record is a separate crash with a different location, start time and CAD number, but it affects the same southbound corridor and resident action as the active Harriman notice. The Rockland Edit added it here so drivers have one current page for the route rather than two competing alerts.

What changes for a resident: a southbound driver returning toward Rockland from Ulster or Orange counties should check live conditions before Exit 18 and again before Exit 16, and allow extra time while both crash records remain active.

Primary source: the 511NY incident list ↗, checked October 13, 2026, at 4:50 and 5:50 p.m. EDT. The complete 28-item list at 5:50 carried two New York State Thruway Authority records on I-87 southbound: before Exit 18 at New Paltz and Route 299, beginning at 5:16 p.m., CAD 262860300; and before Exit 16 at Harriman, Route 17 North and U.S. 6, beginning at 4:38 p.m., CAD 262860280. Neither record posted a blocked lane, detour, queue length, clearing estimate, cause or injury information. The Rockland Edit does not infer any of those details from the presence of a crash record.
