Stop using it. Melissa & Doug fire-truck activity boards are recalled.
If you have a Melissa & Doug Lights & Sounds Fire Truck Activity Board, stop using it now and keep it away from children while you check the bottom date wheels or the package code. The black fire-hose port can loosen and detach, creating a choking hazard.
What to do now
- Stop using the board immediately and keep it away from children.
- Check for an exact match: use the two date wheels on the bottom battery-compartment box or the code on the package.
- Register before altering the toy: use Melissa & Doug's recall page ↗ or call 800-718-5365, Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern.
- Choose a remedy: CPSC lists a free replacement board, a $30 check or a $40 MelissaAndDoug.com store credit.
Match one of these three combinations
On the bottom of the toy, Melissa & Doug and two small date wheels are embossed on the battery-compartment box. One wheel shows the manufacturing year; the other shows the month. The package carries a separate printed code.
The recalled toy is a red plastic fire engine with four black wheels, a white rotating ladder and a black connector that resembles a fire hose. Do not identify it by appearance alone: match the product name and one of the code combinations, and compare CPSC's official photographs if anything is unclear.
The fire-hose port can detach
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says the black fire-hose port can come loose and become a choking hazard. Melissa & Doug has received 26 reports of the small port coming loose and one report of a minor cut. The federal notice does not report a choking injury.
About 84,000 boards were sold for about $30 at Target stores nationwide and Target.com from July 2025 through August 2026. That national sale route gives Rockland families a reason to check the toy and an online order history; it does not confirm a Rockland purchase, loose part or injury.
Register first; destroy the toy only after you receive the code
CPSC says the registration process supplies a unique code. After receiving the instructions, consumers will be asked to remove the batteries, write RECALL and that unique code on the front of the toy, cut off the black hose and upload a photograph of the destroyed product. Dispose of the board in household trash only after the registration has been successfully confirmed.
The federal notice describes the check option as $30. The company's implementation page, when fully reviewed earlier Sunday, described it as $29.95 plus average sales tax. Those descriptions are not identical, so this guide preserves both rather than choosing one. Confirm the amount shown in the live registration flow before selecting a remedy.
What changes for a resident: if your Melissa & Doug Lights & Sounds Fire Truck Activity Board matches one of the three date-wheel or package-code combinations, stop using it immediately and register before removing batteries, marking, cutting or discarding the toy.
