FOOD SAFETY RECALL — HEALTH & READER SERVICE

Check the package. One Starfish smoked-seafood trio is recalled in New York.

Krasnyi Oktyabr recalled one 8-ounce Starfish Seafood Trio of cold-smoked salmon, halibut and trout because it may contain Listeria monocytogenes. Do not eat an exact match; return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The Rockland Edit food-recall card identifying an 8-ounce Starfish Seafood cold-smoked salmon, halibut and trout trio, lot D139149161-153, expiration December 1 2027, with instructions not to eat it and to return it
Original identification card by The Rockland Edit, based on FDA's October 9 posting. It is not product photography, a retailer notice or proof that a recalled package was sold in Rockland.

The notice confirms New York distribution, not a Rockland retailer

FDA's company-announcement posting says the recalled trio was distributed in New York, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina and South Carolina. It does not name stores, publish a UPC or provide a store-level distribution list. The Rockland Edit has not confirmed that the product was sold in Rockland County.

Use the brand, full product name, 8-ounce size, vacuum-sealed package, lot and expiration date together. This notice does not recall every Starfish product or every package of smoked salmon, halibut or trout.

No illnesses were reported when the notice was posted

The company says possible contamination was identified by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. As of the October 9 posting, no illnesses had been reported in connection with the product. That is a time-stamped status, not a guarantee that an exact match is safe.

Listeria is most likely to seriously harm pregnant people and newborns, adults 65 and older, and people with weakened immune systems. CDC says someone who ate recalled food and develops fever with symptoms such as fatigue or muscle aches should contact a healthcare provider and mention the possible exposure. A person who feels well generally does not need testing or treatment, but should speak with a provider if they have questions.

Return an exact match for a refund

  1. Do not open or eat the product.
  2. Keep it separate from food that will be eaten.
  3. Photograph the front label, lot and expiration date for your records.
  4. Return the matching package to the place of purchase for a full refund.
  5. For recall questions, call Krasnyi Oktyabr at 718-858-6720, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern.

What changes for a resident: anyone with an 8-ounce vacuum-sealed Starfish Seafood Trio should check lot D139149161-153 and expiration 12/01/2027 now, avoid eating an exact match and return it for a full refund.
