DEADLINE CLOSEOUT HEALTHCARE, MENTAL HEALTH & AGING

The August 30 replacement-coverage deadline has passed.

New York’s published guidance still says certain people whose Essential Plan coverage ended July 1 had through August 30 to choose replacement coverage without a gap. The Rockland Edit has not confirmed an extension or a separate late-enrollment route.

The Rockland Edit deadline closeout stating that the August 30, 2026 replacement-coverage deadline has passed for people whose Essential Plan coverage ended July 1, with instructions to check their State account or notice
Deadline closeout by The Rockland Edit, based on New York State of Health’s Essential Plan transition guidance. It reports that the published date has passed; it is not an eligibility decision or confirmation of late enrollment.

What is confirmed now

  • Published deadline: August 30, 2026.
  • Current status: That date has passed.
  • Extension: None was visible in the State’s indexed transition guidance at the midnight check.
  • What to do next: Check the current instructions in your NY State of Health account or notice and contact the State when support is available.

Who the deadline covered

New York says the transition affected people whose Essential Plan eligibility changed beginning July 1 because their household income was above 200% of the federal poverty level, as well as certain Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients. The State’s 2026 examples put 200% of the federal poverty level at $31,920 for one person, $43,280 for two, $54,640 for three, and $66,000 for four.

Pregnancy and recent pregnancy can change the result. The State says the new rules may not apply to someone who is pregnant or was pregnant within the prior 12 months. Eligibility depends on the individual notice and current household circumstances—not on the income examples alone.

What the State said the date changed

For people whose expanded Essential Plan coverage ended July 1 and who had not selected replacement coverage, New York identified August 30 as the enrollment deadline for avoiding a gap. The State said most affected people could move to a Qualified Health Plan with financial assistance, but the State—not The Rockland Edit—determines the program, subsidy and effective date.

The State says it mailed affected enrollees a notice in May explaining their new eligibility and next steps. That notice is the starting point. Read New York’s Essential Plan transition guidance ↗

If you missed the deadline

  1. Find the NY State of Health notice that says your Essential Plan coverage ended July 1 and review the replacement program it lists.
  2. Sign in to the official NY State of Health marketplace ↗ and read the current account-specific instructions. Do not assume a late submission will be accepted or gap-free.
  3. Save any account message, confirmation, plan name and effective-date information displayed after you sign in.
  4. If you need individual help, contact NY State of Health or use the State’s certified enrollment-assistor search ↗.

NY State of Health lists its Customer Service Center at 1-855-355-5777, with representatives available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those advertised hours do not establish that the State will grant late enrollment or retroactive coverage.

The useful version: the August 30 date has passed. If the State told you that your Essential Plan coverage ended July 1, use your account and notice for current instructions and contact NY State of Health for an individual answer. Do not rely on an expired “act today” post.

Primary source: NY State of Health, “Stay Connected With NY State of Health” ↗, including its Essential Plan transition overview and enrollee FAQ. The indexed guidance still displayed the August 30 deadline at the August 31 midnight closeout check; no extension was visible. The Rockland Edit did not access an individual marketplace account, determine eligibility, verify a plan selection, independently test the enrollment portal or confirm a late-enrollment route.
