TRANSIT SERVICE GUIDE — SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11

Going to Jets–Browns from Rockland? Check the transfer path before Sunday.

The 1 p.m. game falls on the first day of NJ Transit's temporary Portal Bridge schedules. There is no direct Rockland-to-stadium train: every rider changes at Secaucus, and Sloatsburg adds a substitute bus and a Ramsey Route 17 transfer.

Original service diagram by The Rockland Edit, based on NJ Transit's October 11 event timetable, temporary line schedules and weekend Port Jervis busing notice. It is not an agency timetable or a guarantee that a connection will wait.

Sunday's trip at a glance

  • Earlier road update: the NJ 3 westbound crash notice that was active at 11:52 a.m. was no longer in the 12:54 p.m. 511NY list. Use live 511NY conditions ↗ for any new drive.
  • Game: Jets–Browns starts at 1 p.m.; parking opens at 8 a.m. and gates at 11 a.m.
  • Stadium shuttle: Secaucus departures run from 9:41 a.m. through 2:15 p.m.
  • Ticket: buy the round trip from the Rockland origin to Meadowlands Station; onboard purchases add $5 per ticket.
  • Wristband: show the Meadowlands ticket at Secaucus, receive the required wristband and keep it on for the return shuttle.
  • Pascack Valley / Suffern: take the dated train schedule to Secaucus, then the Meadowlands shuttle.
  • Sloatsburg: take the substitute bus, change to a train at Ramsey Route 17, then change again at Secaucus.
  • Return: the last stadium train will not leave before 6:15 p.m., but crowd-controlled departures do not guarantee a Rockland connection.
  • Weather: NWS forecasts rain Sunday, a high near 64, east gusts up to 24 mph and one-half to three-quarters of an inch during the day at East Rutherford.

Three schedule matches show the different Rockland paths

These are examples from NJ Transit's dated tables—not promised connections or individualized trip advice. Recheck the trip planner and live status before leaving. For the broader October 11–November 14 changes, use The Rockland Edit's temporary-schedule explainer →.

  • Spring Valley / Nanuet / Pearl River: Pascack Valley train 2104 is listed at 8:03, 8:08 and 8:12 a.m., respectively, arriving Secaucus at 9:08. The first Meadowlands shuttle is listed at 9:41, a 33-minute scheduled interval.
  • Suffern: the temporary weekend Main/Bergen table lists a train at 8:09 a.m. arriving Secaucus at 9:07. The 9:41 stadium shuttle leaves a 34-minute scheduled interval.
  • Sloatsburg: October 11 remains inside the separate weekend bus-replacement window. The busing table lists a 9:48 a.m. substitute bus, a change to train at Ramsey Route 17 at 10:15 and a scheduled Secaucus arrival at 11:07. The 11:25 shuttle is the first listed departure with more than a few minutes in the published sequence, arriving Meadowlands at 11:38.

Later trains exist, but shorter printed intervals leave less protection if a bus, train, platform movement or wristband line takes longer than the table. NJ Transit tells riders to allow extra time.

The return requires a second schedule match

The event timetable lists frequent Meadowlands departures after the game, but says end-of-event trains may move earlier or later with crowd volume. A printed 4:50 p.m. Meadowlands shuttle, for example, reaches Secaucus at 5:03. The temporary tables then list a 5:23 Pascack Valley departure and a 5:35 Main/Bergen departure; those trains reach Pearl River at 6:14, Nanuet at 6:19, Spring Valley at 6:26 and Suffern at 6:37.

That is a schedule comparison, not a prediction of when a rider will clear the stadium or board a crowd-controlled shuttle. Sloatsburg riders must also match the train to the separate substitute-bus table at Ramsey Route 17. Missing a bus connection can create a much longer wait, so the day-of trip planner matters in both directions.

The wristband is not the fare home

At Secaucus, a rider shows the NJ Transit ticket to Meadowlands Station and receives the wristband required for the shuttle. Someone who reaches the stadium another way may buy a shuttle wristband at tents near Meadowlands Station beginning 2½ hours before the 1 p.m. kickoff—10:30 a.m.—but that wristband covers only Meadowlands–Secaucus travel. A separate ticket is still required beyond Secaucus.

PATH is available from Hoboken but is not cross-honored for this event. Riders returning toward New York on the upper level at Secaucus should expect additional time because the Portal cutover requires continuous single-track operation.

Check again Sunday

NJ Transit reissued the event advisory Friday afternoon without changing the published transfer, wristband or shuttle instructions. At the 11:52 a.m. Sunday check, Main/Bergen County and Pascack Valley were on time and carried the already-covered Portal, Jets–Browns and Port Jervis planned-service notices; no separate unscheduled Rockland-serving rail disruption appeared. Both Ramsey Route 17 elevators and all seven Secaucus rail elevators were listed in service.

The NJ 3 westbound crash notice that was active at 11:52 a.m. no longer appeared in the 12:54 p.m. 511NY list. Its exact clearing time and final outcome were not posted, so use the live map rather than the earlier notice for a new drive.

The National Weather Service's 9:50 a.m. Sunday forecast calls for rain at East Rutherford, with a 100% chance of precipitation, a high near 64 and east gusts up to 24 mph. One-half to three-quarters of an inch is possible during the day, with more rain and stronger gusts Sunday night. The 2:42 a.m. regional hazardous-weather outlook says the probability of widespread hazardous weather is low, but travelers should bring rain protection, allow extra time and recheck the forecast.

What changes for a resident: the earlier NJ 3 crash notice is no longer current guidance. The rail plan is unchanged: Pascack Valley and Suffern riders use trains to Secaucus, while Sloatsburg riders begin with a substitute bus and change at Ramsey Route 17.

Live-status update: at 12:54 p.m. EDT October 11, the earlier NJ 3 westbound crash notice no longer appeared in the 511NY incident list. At the 11:52 a.m. check it had listed two left lanes of three closed just west of the Turnpike Western Spur; the exact clearing time and final outcome were not posted. NJ Transit listed Main/Bergen County and Pascack Valley on time at 11:52 a.m., and both Ramsey Route 17 elevators and all seven Secaucus rail elevators were listed in service. The NWS East Rutherford forecast updated at 9:50 a.m. and regional hazardous-weather outlook issued at 2:42 a.m. were checked then. Route and fare sources below were verified October 9; example connections remain comparisons of official tables, not guarantees that a train, bus or event shuttle will wait.
