TRANSIT SERVICE EXPLAINER — TRANSPORTATION
Temporary rail schedules start October 11. Pick the table for your line and day.
NJ Transit says adjusted schedules will run from Sunday, October 11, through Saturday, November 14, while Amtrak moves the final track onto the new Portal North Bridge. Rockland riders should use the dated temporary timetable even when a familiar local train time has not changed.

The short version
- Dates: Sunday, October 11, through Saturday, November 14.
- Pascack Valley: Spring Valley, Nanuet and Pearl River local times mostly remain familiar, but some Secaucus and New York connections shift.
- Main/Bergen/Port Jervis: Suffern and weekday Sloatsburg service mostly follow the preceding temporary pattern.
- Sunday, October 11: a separate construction notice keeps Sloatsburg on substitute buses to Ramsey Route 17 for this one day.
- Weekday exception: eight midday Port Jervis trains west of Suffern are replaced by buses connecting with trains at Ramsey Route 17.
- Expected end: regular schedules are expected Sunday, November 15, subject to safety testing.
Choose the weekday or weekend table for your line
NJ Transit posted four separate timetables. Use the one that matches both your corridor and travel day:
- Main/Bergen County/Port Jervis: weekday timetable ↗ or weekend timetable ↗.
- Pascack Valley: weekday timetable ↗ or weekend timetable ↗.
A Rockland Edit comparison found that the temporary Pascack Valley tables keep most local Spring Valley, Nanuet and Pearl River times from the preceding schedule. Several New York connection times differ. On the other corridor, Suffern train times and Sloatsburg's eight weekday midday bus trips largely continue the pattern already in effect. The practical change is the dated connection table, not a wholly new local departure board.
Sunday, October 11 has a one-day Sloatsburg exception
NJ Transit's general Portal cutover timetable begins Sunday, October 11, and shows direct weekend trains serving Sloatsburg. A separate, more specific Port Jervis construction advisory—reposted October 6—keeps substitute buses in effect from stations west of Suffern through 12:30 a.m. Monday, October 12. Its dated weekend table runs through October 11.
For October 11, treat the construction plan as an overlay: Sloatsburg riders use the substitute bus and change to a train at Ramsey Route 17. Suffern riders remain on the train side of the plan. Later cutover weekends use the direct trains in the Portal weekend table unless NJ Transit posts another exception. Monday, October 12 uses the cutover weekday table, including its marked midday bus substitutions west of Suffern.
Before the first trip
- Open the temporary PDF for the correct line and weekday or weekend; for Sloatsburg on October 11, use the separate construction bus table.
- Read the full trip, including the Secaucus or Ramsey Route 17 connection—not only the Rockland station time.
- Replace saved or printed routine times for the five-week window.
- Check NJ Transit live status ↗ and the trip planner shortly before departure.
For the October 11 Jets–Browns trip, use the event-specific Rockland connection guide. It incorporates the Sloatsburg bus exception, Secaucus transfer and required Meadowlands wristband. Recheck NJ Transit live status before leaving.
What changes for a resident: from October 11 through November 14, Rockland rail riders need the temporary timetable for their line and day. Sloatsburg has a one-day substitute-bus exception on October 11, and eight weekday midday Port Jervis trips west of Suffern continue by bus with a Ramsey Route 17 connection.
Primary sources rechecked October 9, 2026, at 9 a.m. EDT: NJ Transit's Portal North Bridge advisory ↗, Portal cutover schedule page ↗, the four linked temporary timetables, the Port Jervis construction advisory ↗ reposted October 6 at 1 p.m., and its weekend busing table through October 11 ↗. The general Portal weekend table shows direct Sloatsburg trains, but the later, service-specific construction record preserves the October 11 bus overlay. NJ Transit says regular schedules are expected November 15 subject to completion of safety testing; that date is not guaranteed.
