SERVICE UPDATE — TAXES, LOCAL GOVERNMENT & DEVELOPMENT
New York has removed its special Tax Online Services outage notice.
Before the previously estimated 5 p.m. return, the State’s official Online Services page stopped displaying the extended-maintenance alert. It now shows the ordinary service page and routine maintenance schedule; The Rockland Edit did not independently test an account login.

Update — Saturday, August 29, at 3:21 p.m.
- Special outage notice: No longer displayed on the official Online Services page.
- What the page shows now: Account-service information, a login link, and the routine maintenance schedule.
- Routine maintenance: Services may be unavailable Monday through Saturday from 4 to 6 a.m. and Sundays from 9 to 10 p.m.
- Independent check: The Rockland Edit did not enter an account or test every transaction.
- If login still fails: Use the Department’s technical-support page; Quick Pay remains available for eligible payments without an Online Services login.
At 3:21 p.m. Saturday, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance’s official Online Services page ↗ no longer displayed the special maintenance notice that had listed account creation, login and transactions as unavailable until approximately 5 p.m. The page says it was updated August 29 and now presents the standard account-service information and login link.
That removal changes the responsible status language: the State is no longer publicly labeling the extended outage as active. It does not prove that every account or transaction works for every user, and The Rockland Edit did not enter an account to perform an independent login test.
What to do now
Start from the State’s current Online Services page and try the transaction you need. If the login or transaction still fails, use the Department’s linked technical-support guidance ↗ rather than assuming the earlier extended window remains in effect. Do not send passwords, Social Security numbers, account credentials or full notice details to The Rockland Edit.
Quick Pay remains a separate option
If you only need to pay an eligible bill, notice or installment payment agreement, Quick Pay does not require an Online Services login. Have the case number from the bill or notice and information from a filed return ready for identity verification. Quick Pay is not a substitute for every account task. Review the State’s Quick Pay instructions ↗
The original window remains part of the record
The Department’s earlier notice listed an extended maintenance period beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, August 28, with service expected to return at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday, August 29. The notice was still present at 6:54 p.m. Friday. This article keeps those facts for accountability while making clear that the State removed the notice before the estimated end.
The practical version: the State has withdrawn the special outage notice, so it is reasonable to try Online Services again. If your task still fails, use the official technical-support or transaction-specific fallback rather than treating this page as proof that every feature is restored.
