SERVICE UPDATE — PLANNED CLOSURE

Palisades southbound is expected to close north of Rockland. Check the midday window.

NYSDOT plans to close the Palisades Interstate Parkway southbound between Long Mountain Circle and Exit 18 (U.S. Route 6) from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily, Tuesday, November 3, through Friday, November 6. The maintenance schedule is weather permitting and subject to change.

Planned closure at a glance

  • Direction: southbound only.
  • Segment: Long Mountain Circle to Exit 18 (U.S. Route 6).
  • Window: 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day from November 3 through November 6.
  • Reason: maintenance work.
  • Condition: weather permitting; the schedule may change.

What this means for Rockland-bound travel

The closure is in the Town of Highlands in Orange County, immediately north of Rockland. During the published window, a driver coming south from the Bear Mountain or West Point corridor will not be able to stay on the Palisades through the named segment on the way toward Rockland.

NYSDOT tells motorists to follow the posted detour. The advisory does not publish the detour route or estimate added travel time, so this guide does not invent either one. Northbound travel is not included in the reviewed notice.

Before leaving

  • Check the 511NY live map ↗ for current status before entering the corridor.
  • Allow extra time and follow on-road detour signs rather than relying on an assumed route.
  • Do not use this article as confirmation that the road is closed at a particular moment; it describes NYSDOT's planned schedule.

What changes for a Rockland resident: a southbound trip toward Rockland from the Bear Mountain and West Point corridor may need a posted detour between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. November 3–6. Recheck 511NY because the work is weather dependent.

Primary record checked October 31, 2026, at 2:53 a.m. EDT: NYSDOT Region 8's October 30 traveler advisory ↗ and Region 8 advisory index ↗. The notice identifies a planned full southbound closure, not a current closure, and does not specify the detour route.
