SENIOR WELLNESS SERVICE GUIDE HEALTHCARE, MENTAL HEALTH & AGING

Ready to move this fall? Rockland's chair-yoga and Zumba registration is open.

Rockland County's Office for the Aging has opened registration for four fall exercise series in West Nyack, Suffern and West Haverstraw. They are for County residents age 60 and older, and space is limited—so this is one to call about before making plans.

Original schedule card by The Rockland Edit, based on Rockland County Office for the Aging records. It is an editorial guide—not a County flyer or confirmation that a class still has space.

Start here

  • Who: Rockland County residents age 60 and older.
  • Registration: required separately for each series; space is first come, first served.
  • How: call the Office for the Aging at 845-364-2100 and speak with a staff member.
  • Before traveling: confirm that the series you want still has space.

West Nyack starts first

At the Palisades Center, the County is offering two chair-yoga class times on select Mondays and one Zumba series on select Tuesdays. All three meet in the fourth-floor Joe and Cay Raso Room near the ice-skating rink at 1000 Palisades Center Drive.

  • Chair yoga, Class 1: 1–2 p.m. September 28; October 5, 19 and 26; November 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30; and December 7, 14 and 21. There is no class October 12.
  • Chair yoga, Class 2: 3–4 p.m. on the same listed Mondays.
  • Zumba: 3–4 p.m. September 29; October 6, 13, 20 and 27; November 3, 10, 17 and 24; and December 1, 8 and 15.

West Haverstraw and Suffern begin October 14

The two Wednesday series share the same nine dates: October 14, 21 and 28; November 4, 18 and 25; and December 2, 9 and 16. There is no class November 11.

  • West Haverstraw Zumba: 10–11 a.m. at the Walnut Hill Apartments Community Room, 590 Route 9W.
  • Suffern chair yoga: noon–1 p.m. at the Ross Towers Community Room, 200 Lafayette Avenue.

What the County has—and has not—said

The official announcement and flyers say registration is required for each series and that space is limited. They do not state a participant fee, so this guide does not describe the classes as free. Ask the Office for the Aging about any cost, current space or wait-list when you call.

The flyers ask participants to arrive in comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear and to bring water. They also say residents may request a reasonable accommodation to participate; use the same Office for the Aging number to ask what is available.

What changes for a resident: if you are 60 or older and live in Rockland, you can call now for a limited place in a fall chair-yoga or Zumba series in West Nyack, Suffern or West Haverstraw. Registration is not a drop-in guarantee—confirm your place with the County before you go.
