Before you go

  • Opening: Sunday, November 1, at 5 p.m., at the Dr. Robert L. Yeager Health Center in Pomona. Guests may remain overnight until the next morning.
  • Capacity: the County says the center can shelter up to 75 single adults experiencing homelessness each night. That is a maximum, not a guarantee of a bed.
  • Daytime access: the County says the center operates during the day only when the temperature, including wind chill, is below 32 degrees.
  • Questions about same-day access: call Rockland County DSS at 845-364-2332 or 845-608-6670.

Opening night is a Sunday. The County lists the Pomona pickup only for Monday through Friday; its announcement does not state pickup days for the other three locations. Anyone who needs transportation on opening night should call DSS to confirm the current schedule before waiting at a pickup point.

What the center provides—and what the notice does not answer

The County says guests have access to a hot meal, showers and laundry. Staff can help with benefit applications, job placement, housing referrals and other supportive services.

The current announcement does not state the season's closing date, an after-hours arrival process, required documents, pet policy, accessibility accommodations or family-shelter rules. This guide covers the announced Warming Center for single adults; it does not establish eligibility for every County shelter program. Call DSS when one of those details affects an immediate plan.

What this changes for a Rockland resident: a single adult experiencing homelessness has a confirmed November 1 start time, four County-posted pickup locations and two DSS numbers for checking same-day access. The article does not promise space on a particular night.

Primary record checked October 29, 2026, at 3:53 a.m. EDT: Rockland County, “County Warming Center Opens for Guests Nov. 1” ↗, posted October 21 at 9 a.m. The current County announcement is the source for the opening, capacity, service, temperature threshold, pickup and contact details. No current 2026–27 multilingual flyer was located, so this article does not import access rules from an earlier season.
