Check the charger. XO Poppy power banks sold at TJX and Marshalls are recalled.

The recalled magnetic wireless power banks can overheat and ignite. Stop using a match immediately, request the full refund and do not put the lithium-ion device in household trash, curbside recycling or a retail battery box.

Why Rockland shoppers should check

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says about 32,400 power banks were sold at TJX and Marshalls stores nationwide from April 2025 through March 2026 for about $15. Marshalls’ official locator lists a store at 133 East Route 59 in Nanuet ↗.

That local storefront makes the recall worth checking, but it does not prove the product was sold there. CPSC does not identify individual stores or purchasers, and The Rockland Edit has not confirmed a Nanuet sale or a Rockland incident.

Use the packaging—and the federal photos

CPSC identifies the group by main model PYPBK5M and the three style codes above. The agency says the specific code is printed on the bottom of the original packaging directly above the barcode. If the packaging is gone, compare the device with CPSC’s photographs of the cream, pink-bow and teddy-bear versions ↗ and contact the recall administrator before disposal.

The lithium-ion battery can overheat and ignite, creating fire and burn hazards. No incidents or injuries had been reported when CPSC issued the recall on September 3.

Refund first; disposal needs a separate plan

Do not throw the device in household trash, a street or curbside recycling bin, or the used-battery boxes found at stores. CPSC says recalled lithium-ion batteries need different handling because of their higher fire risk.

A local call before you drive

Rockland County’s 2026 waste page lists the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 35 Firemens Memorial Drive in Pomona, with weekday hours from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a special Saturday drop-off on September 5 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The County says household hazardous waste and electronics are free for Rockland residents. CPSC still advises calling ahead to ask whether a facility accepts this specific recalled device. Call the County hazardous-waste hotline at 845-364-2444 before going. The useful move: find the charger, check PYPBK5M and the style code or federal photos, then stop using a match. Claim the refund before arranging safe disposal—and keep this recalled battery out of every ordinary trash or recycling stream.
