Own one of these AGA or La Cornue ranges? Shut off the gas and check the serial number.

A missing cap inside certain dual-fuel ranges can allow gas to leak. The federal instruction is immediate: shut off the range’s gas supply, stop using the surface burners and check whether the serial number qualifies for a free certified inspection and repair.

Start with the gas supply—not the burners

CPSC says owners should shut off the gas supply immediately and promptly determine whether the range is included. That disables the gas surface burners. Do not test a burner, disassemble the range or try to inspect the gas manifold yourself.

If you cannot safely identify or operate the supply shutoff, contact AGA Rangemaster or a qualified gas professional. If you smell gas, leave the area and call 911 and the gas utility from a safe location; do not use switches, flames or a phone inside the affected area.

Model and date narrow the recall; the serial number decides the next step

The recall covers freestanding AGA Elise and Mercury dual-fuel ranges in 36- and 48-inch widths, plus La Cornue CornuFé 90 and CornuFé 110 dual-fuel ranges in 36- and 43-inch widths. All colors, trim options and Natural- or LP-gas configurations within the named model and date groups are included in the recall description.

The rating plate is on the bottom panel beneath the storage drawer. Use the maker’s AGA recall lookup ↗ or La Cornue recall lookup ↗. If you cannot locate the serial number, call the recall line rather than forcing or taking apart the appliance.

The electric ovens may still be used

CPSC says owners may continue using only the electric oven sections while the gas supply is off. The gas surface burners cannot be used. That distinction matters: this is not a stop-use order for every electric part of the appliance.

The inspection and repair are free

AGA Rangemaster will arrange an inspection by a certified technician. If the test-port cap is missing, the technician will install it and check for a leak. The manufacturer says there is no cost for the inspection, service visit or required repair.

The federal recall covers about 3,992 ranges sold through authorized appliance dealers nationwide from March 2025 through July 2026 for roughly $6,000 to $20,000. Another 336 were sold in Canada. CPSC reported no incidents or injuries as of September 10.

What is—and is not—confirmed locally

Nationwide dealer sales make this a concrete check for Rockland homeowners, landlords, property managers and appliance buyers. The Rockland Edit has not confirmed that an affected range was sold or installed in Rockland, or that a local gas leak, fire, explosion or injury occurred.

If the model and production window match, keep the order simple: shut off the gas supply, leave the surface burners unused, check the serial number and arrange the free certified visit. A gas odor is an emergency—not a routine recall appointment.
